Lady Lake Garage Door serves Lady Lake, Lake County, FL with garage door repair.
The sound and the symptoms
Spring failures announce themselves. There is a bang, loud enough that people often think something fell. After that, the opener lifts the door a little and gives up, or the door will not move at all. The motor may hum and strain.
Look above the door. Most Lady Lake garages use a torsion spring on a steel bar over the opening. A broken one shows a clear gap in the coil. Some doors, especially smaller and older ones, use extension springs running along the side tracks instead. A broken extension spring hangs loose or lies on the floor.
Do not lift it
Without the spring, the door weighs what it actually weighs, and that is a lot. Do not try to hoist it by hand. Leave the emergency release alone while the door is up, because it can come crashing down.
Why they break
Springs are rated by cycles. One cycle is one trip up and one trip down. Rust shortens that number. In Florida's humidity, an unprotected spring can rust long before its rated life is used up. Golf cart doors that run many times a day burn through cycles quickly.
Replacing the spring
The technician measures the door and the old spring, then fits a new spring matched to the door's weight. It is wound with proper bars and set to the right tension. Then the door is tested off the opener: raised halfway and released. It should float in place. If it does, the opener only has to guide it.
Doors with two springs get both replaced. The second spring has the same mileage and the same rust, and it will follow the first one soon.
Prices
In our posted price ranges, one torsion spring costs $165 to $400. When a door has two springs, the pair costs $315 to $575. Extension springs are done in pairs for $140 to $300. You approve the written price before any work.
Golf cart door springs
A cart door uses smaller springs than the main door. They are sized separately, and we carry common sizes. Ask about it when you call (352) 823-6695.
